MSR Elixir vs Hubba Hubba NX comparison

When choosing your tent you probably have already gone through all the blogs, comparison pages, visited several shops… and if you are still browsing, you still don’t know which tent to choose. It has happened to us twice already (third time we had to buy the only tent available in a shopping mall in Chile: Doite Andina). You can search for more tips on how to choose your tent in separate article here. However, if you have ended up reading this, you must be doubting between MSR Elixir vs Hubba Hubba, both MSR brand and both at first glance almost identical.

Summarising: Elixir tent is probably a bit more durable tent than Hubba Hubba and therefore might protect us better from wind/rain. However, it is 0,72 kg heavier than Hubba Hubba which might be important for some travellers and especially hikers.

We need to be aware of the price of both tents – basically: the lighter the more expensive. In case of Elixir MSR tent, the footprint is included, in Hubba Hubba we need to make additional purchase.

Our choice

We have been looking for a durable tent with additional space for rainy days but still light and available at “good” price.

After looking at Vaude tents, having had also Big Agnes at some point in our lives, we have made a decision to go for Elixir MSR tent for 3 people. It has been with us for some time already, survived perfectly 3 weeks of cycling around Iceland and still looks as new 🙂

We have been using always the footprint to protect the floor which is included in the price of the tent. Travelling with cycling bags is not a problem at all – there is plenty of space inside the tent and in vestibules, even cooking in the rain is not a problem.

Even if you require more space, you can always buy extra vestibule available for both Elixir and Hubba Hubba.

What tent do you guys have? We are eager to know your opinions.

Safe travels!!
